Petar G. Igic, MD

Cardiology

"Our understanding of heart rhythm disease is improving rapidly and many patients live better and longer as a result of new treatments and technology. I am humbled, however, that at the core of every patient's diagnosis lies the basic interview and medical history whose values cannot be overestimated."

Medical Interests

Dr. Igic has a particular interest in atrial fibrillation management and performs a full range of invasive electrophysiology (EP) procedures including atrial fibrillation ablations and device implants. He also sees patients experiencing fainting problems.

Dr. Igic collaborates with area physicians to ensure the best care for patients in Madison and the surrounding communities. He founded the Madison Area Electrophysiology Group and hosts meetings to provide an opportunity for group discussion.

Medical Philosophy

Patients with heart rhythm problems often have significant impairment in their quality of life and require invasive and non-invasive testing and treatments to reach a diagnosis or to be treated for their problem. Dr. Igic’s ultimate goal is to ensure they clearly understand the results of their tests, what diagnosis they have and their treatment plan. He believes clear communication with each patient is the key to achieving long-term success and allowing each patient to have a choice among more than one treatment alternative whenever possible significantly improves outcomes.

Personal Interests

Outside of work, Dr. Igic enjoys traveling, biking and coaching his child’s soccer team. He also appreciates good coffee enough to invest in three espresso machines.

About Electrophysiologists

Electrophysiologists provide treatment for heart rhythm disorders and fainting. Key procedures include catheter ablation, electrophysiologic testing, holter and event monitoring, tilt testing, laser lead extraction, and implanting pacemakers, implantable cardiovascular difibrillators, implantable loop recorders, and cardiac resynchronizations pacemakers and defibrillators for congestive heart failure.
