Medical Interests

In addition to cardiothoracic surgery, Dr. Gilliam is interested in medical ethics and surgical critical care.

Medical Philosophy

Dr. Gilliam has always been fascinated with medicine because it offers him a chance to directly impact the lives of others. He was captivated by the ever-growing field of cardiothoracic surgery, which centers on our most vital organ – the heart. Dr. Gilliam believes open dialogue is the key to a beneficial doctor-patient relationship, but it's on the physician to be a better listener than talker. He feels it's the only way to understand how conditions affect his patients' everyday lives, and thus, the best way to create realistic treatment goals.

Personal Interests

Dr. Gilliam likes to spend time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Maya, as well as jogging and reading. He served in the armed forces for over 30 years, achieving the rank of Brigadier General before his retirement.
